Catherine "Kitty" Susan Bennis Meinck, a resident of Running Deer Drive in Columbia, passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side Tuesday evening, December 16, 2014, and a guardian angel was born. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 20th at 11am at the St. Catherine's Catholic Church with Father Davis Chackaleckel officiating. The family will visit with friends at Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, December 19th from 4pm until 8pm with a Prayer Service beginning at 7pm. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Kitty was born July 28, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Susan O'Kane Bennis. Catherine entered the gates of heaven uniting with her husband Edward H. Meinck. As her family spoke about her saying they were blessed to have gained many valuable words of wisdom from Kitty including God and family are the most important things in life and when you're time is up, it's up and you cannot change that so live life to the fullest and don't cry in sorrow. During her time on Earth, Kitty touched those around her, whether it was the way she could light up a room with her presence, her loving nature as a mother and grandmother, or her dedication to the church and her love of the Holy family. She was jokester, enjoying making others laugh. Kitty also loved celebrating the holidays. She enjoyed shopping with her girls, riding roller coasters, and playing and teaching her grandkids and great grandkids. Kitty's wishes are that we rejoice in her memories and joy for life, and be happy for the time we've spent together. Though her work here is done, in her new life as a guarding angel she will be watching over her loved ones. In life, she did it her way. Mom, sleep with the angels. Kitty's spirit is carried on by her three daughters: Theresa "Terri" Meinck of Columbia, Kathleen "Kooker" Snyder of PA, and Margaret "Pegi" (Jerime) Thurston of Oak Harbor, WA; two granddaughters: Jennifer "Jen" (Daniel) Jakubowicz of PA and Patricia "Tricia" Snyder of PA; Two identical twin great granddaughters: Catherine "Catie" and Riley Jakubowicz; two brothers: James (Emma) Bennis of CT and Thomas (Patricia) Bennis of FL; nieces and nephews and her extended family and friends.
