Darrell E. Wells

Mr. Darrell E. "Pop" Wells, 82, resident of Park Plus Court in Columbia, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014, at Signature Health Care in Columbia. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 24, 2014, at 7:00 PM with Pastor Brian Talley officiating. The family will visit with friends on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, prior to the service. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born on May 19, 1932, in Bangor, NY, he was the son of the late Clarence and Florence Megan Wells. He served his country in the Army and was also a retired truck driver for a TN Paving Company. He was a member of Christ Fellowship Church. He enjoyed tinkering in his shed and sitting on his porch watching people and animals as they passed by. He was an avid bird watcher, and especially enjoyed the hummingbirds and sparrows. He will be remembered as a man who cared for all of God's creatures, both large and small. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jane Helmer Wells; one son, Darrell Wells, Jr. of Columbia; three step-sons: Harold "Skip" Springer of New York, Joe Springer of Lawrenceburg, and Frank Springer of Columbia; two step-daughters: Bessie Reynolds of New York, and Char Anderson of Columbia; one sister, Jean Foley of Llano, Louisiana. 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, as well as, several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul "Boogie" Vanoven, Danny Duncan, Dennis Scroggins, Jesse "Buster" Overstreet, Eddie Phillips, Dr. Rinehart and employees of Fox Trucking. The family would like to extend special appreciation to the staff of Signature Health Care.
