Mr. Richard Demers, age 71, husband of Pauline Drolet Demers, and resident of Columbia, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014, at his residence. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Catherine's Catholic Church. The family will visit with friends for visitation on Sunday, November 23, 2014 from 5:30 - 8:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 beginning at 5:30 PM. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born on February 17, 1943, in West Warwick, Rhode Island, Richard was the son of the late Louis and Laurette Lantagne Demers. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and worked for General Motors for 30 years. He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed bowling and traveling, but especially spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Pauline Drolet Demers; son: Tim Demers of Columbia; three daughters: Susan Guy of Franklin, Leslie (Robert) Stewart of Columbia, and Renay (Pat) Anderson of Murfreesboro; one brother, Louis (Pauline) Demers of Rhode Island; and nine grandchildren: Andrew, Madison, Sarah, Emily, Alex, Meredith, Katelyn, Mykela, and Felicia. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lorette Gadreau. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the American Cancer society or a charity of your choice.
