Lonney LaFever

December 10, 1944 - November 11, 2014

Mr. Lonney LaFever, age 69, husband of Kathlene LaFever, and a resident of Windsor Drive in Columbia, TN went home to Heaven on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. A Celebration of Life and luncheon will be held on Saturday, November 15th from 1-3pm at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born on December 10, 1944 in Pontiac, Michigan, Lonney was the son of the late Jerry LaFever and Betty Gabrielson Sexton. Lonney worked most of his life in construction and landscaping. He met his wife Kathy Wilcox in 1966, and they were married on June 30, 1973. They lived in Waterford, Michigan before relocating in Tennessee in November 1990 for Kathy's job. Lonney and Kathy were known to always have a dog that was more like a family member. Lonney's English Cocker named Butchie, was his pride and joy, and they adored each other for 14 years before Butchie passed on. Lonney added a new member to their family, a poodle they called Squeaky, nine years ago. He enjoyed going to church and was a member of Campbell Station Church of Christ. You could often find him out and about in the neighborhood landscaping the lawns and bushes of the elderly. He also enjoyed traveling and camping out at the river. Lonney was a hard working and honest man who loved the outdoors, but loved his family above all else. He was a beloved husband, valued friend, and cherished neighbor. Lonney was a man of few words, but an excellent story teller. He was strong and kind, and was known for always being available to lend a hand to those in need. Lonney loved a good cup of coffee and conversation, both things he found with his coffee drinking buddies at McDonald's on Trotwood Avenue. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his siblings: Sue Ayotte of Pontiac, Michigan, Alan (Linda) Sexton of Niagara Falls, New York, Norman (Marsha) Sexton of Clarkston, Michigan; niece: Samantha (Matt) Hubarth of Waterford, Michigan; nephew: Alan Ayotte of Michigan; great-nieces and nephews and cousins; and his wife, Kathy's, family. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert LaFever.
