US Army Retired Mr. Lester A. Toy, husband of Marjorie Toy passed away Thursday evening, November 6, 2014 at his Raleigh Beard Road residence in Santa Fe, TN. Visitation is Monday November 10, 2014 between 4:00PM to 7:00PM. Funeral services will be held Vererans Day, Tuesday November 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Reverend Rick Bowden and Keith Baker officiating. Family will visit with friends one hour prior to service. Burial at Adkison Cemetery in Santa Fe with Pastor Rick Points officiating at the graveside post to service. Heritage Funeral Home is servicing family with arrangements. Born September 10, 1928 in Davidson County Tennessee, Lester was son of the late Elmer Sherman Toy and Bertha Lee Anderson Toy. Shortly after his 17th birthday he enlisted into the Army that enevidibly led to his selfless service to our country during it's three major conflicts; to include his involvement of the Occupation of Japan and the bombing of Hiroshima that took place during the Second World War, he fought in the Korean War and completed two tours to Vietnam. He married his love, Marjorie Ann Quirk December of 1958 and spent 56 beautiful years together. He will be remembered by family and friends as a loving husband, dedicated father and grandfather, and best friend. After 26 years of service, Lester retired from the Army in 1978. Lester and Marjorie moved back home to Tennessee where they resided in the Santa Fe Community. There, he began work for Triangle Auto Spring Columbia. Retiring after ten years, his love for people led him to Maury County Convenience Centers where he worked for another several years. In his spare time Lester could often be found 'pickin' and grinnin''somewhere with any number of his musician buddies. His love for music involved him in several gospel bands over the years, in which he would play guitar and sing. He especially enjoyed playing music at various nursing homes and senior citizen centers around town. When he wasn't picking his guitar or singing he enjoyed farming, gardening, and fishing. First and foremost, Lester loved the Lord. He was a member of House of Prayer Baptist Church. His love for the Lord in his life was evident for the love he had for his family and friends. He went on to teach Sunday School for many years for he desire to teach others about Jesus Christ. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Robert "Kenny" (Annette) Johnson of Kempner, TX, daughters, Dianne (Harvey) Boone of Ashland City, TN, and Debbie Bristol of Denton, TX, his brother, Billy (Norma Jean) Toy of Fairview, TN, three sisters, Josephine Bates of Smyrna, TN, Cena Alberta Patterson of FL, and Florence (Glenn) Sweet IL, nine grandchildren: Keith (Grace) Nielson of Santa Rosa, CA, Tracy (Allen) Fagan of Columbia, TN, Jeremy Boone of Fort Bliss, TX, Jamie Boone of Fort Bragg, NC, Justin (Dayna) Bristol of Denton, TX, Daniel (Ginia) Johnson of Harker Heights, TX, Christi Bristol of Denton, TX, Candice (Levi) Painting of Fort Leonard Wood, MI, and Emily (David) Hodges of Lampasa, TX, eight great-grandchildren: Patrick Nielson, Chance Fagan, Aaron Fagan, Broc Bristol, Sage Johnson, Maddy Boone, Shaylee Boone, and Annabel Bristol Bruce. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Sherman Toy and Bertha Lee Anderson Toy, and by one brother, Lex Toy. Pallbearers will be the Fort Campbell Casualty Assistants. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and men of the church.
