Mr. James "Jimmie" Adkisson, age 85 and a resident of Denham Ave in Columbia, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Signature Healthcare. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 4:30 PM with Bro. Mike Roberts officiating. The family will also visit with friends on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. James was born on October 2, 1928 in Maury County, and was the son of the late James B. and the Vera Smith Adkisson. He worked as a car salesman with Matthews Motor Company for many years. He attended Parkway Baptist Church and was an avid coon hunter his whole life. He loved bluegrass and gospel music and would attend any music festival he could find. Jimmie was in a band in his younger years, and he often enjoyed watching football. Jimmie is survived by his wife of 33 years: Nancy Clymore Adkisson; step-children: Taleah Potts; William "Ted" (Cindy) Potts both of Columbia; children: James "Butch "Adkisson, Jr., John (Sharon) Adkisson, Betty Carol Robertson all of Kentucky, Pam Carney of Nashville; sister: Betty Robinson of Camden, TN; step-grandchildren: Allen-Michael Stacey; Hailey Potts; grandchildren: Josh Adkisson, Ty Adkisson, Jerry Carney, Autumn Carney, Heath Willis, Chaz Smith, Michael Smith; step-great-grandchild: Micailey Foshee; great-grandchild: Simon Cartwright; brother-in-law: Edward (Becky) Clymore; nephews: Rickey McLin; Kevin McLin; niece: Nancy Lynch and a very special Shihtzu: Mollie. In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by daughters: Beverly Adkisson and Vickie Smith; and brother-in-law: Jim Robinson. The family wishes that memorial donations be made to the Local Animal Shelter, American Cancer Society, or and Parkway Baptist Church. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Caregivers: Valerie Johnson at Life Care, and Chelsea and Mike at Signature Healthcare and Dr. Charles Ball for their care and compassion during their time of need.
