Walter Hugh Holt, Sr.

June 28, 1941 - August 24, 2014

Mr. Walter H. "Slick" Holt Sr. age 73 of Hickory Dr. in Columbia, passed away on August 24, 2014 in Signature Healthcare. Visitation with family and friends for Mr. Holt will be Wednesday, August 27 from 1:00 until 7:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home, and again on Thursday from 2:00 PM until the service. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 4:00 PM from the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with burial in the Garden of Promise in Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to the funeral home. The Williamson County native was a son of the late Madison and Mammie Pearl Holt. He was a loving husband to Gladys Holt for 54 years. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and son. He worked at Central Lime Company and General Trucking, where he retired. In addition to his wife, Gladys of Columbia, he is survived by four daughters and one son: Arleen Moore (Bob Hillman) of Columbia, Linda (Bobby) Thompson of Pulaski, Betty (Mark) Savage of Columbia, Laura Holt (Jeff Cates) of Columbia and Walter H. Holt Jr. of Columbia; twelve grandchildren: Deanna Nay of Columbia, Shaun Nay of Columbia, Vanessa (Steven) Berry of Pulaski, Kimberly (Billy) Birdsong of Pulaski, Krystal (Eric) Mitchell of Pulaski, Walter (Angela) Holt 3rd of Columbia, Charles Hodge of Columbia, Michael Holt of Columbia, Preston Holt, Jonathon Holt, Daniel Holt and Austin Holt, all of Columbia; and eighteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter: Minnie Katherine Holt; two brothers: Howard Holt Sr. and William Holt, and a nephew: Howard Holt Jr. Grandsons and Nephews will serve as pallbearers. No words can express the gratitude and the thanks to the staff of Signature Health Care of Columbia for the excellent care and love shown to our father during his extended time there.
