Barney W. "Pop" Bennett, age 77 of Houston, TX passed away on August 23, 2014 in Franklin, TN. He was born on October 25, 1936 in Lawrenceburg, TN to the late Barney Floyd and Cordie Bell Bennett. Barney is survived by his loving wife of 56 years: Irona; son: Michael Bennett; daughter: Judy Lunsford and husband Bennie Lunsford Jr.; grandchildren: Bennie (Bullet) Lunsford and wife Janet Lunsford, Barney Lunsford, Austin Bennett, Matthew Bennett and wife Laurie Bennett; great-grandchildren, Emmi and Colby Lunsford; siblings: Dee Bennett (Anna), Joan Bennett, Shirley Bennett (Corky), Tommy Bennett (Mary), Jimmy Bennett, Gloria Weathers and Mae Foster, and blessed with many loving nieces and nephews and treasured friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Billie Dotson, R.D. Dotson, Richard Bennett, Linda Bennett, Roger Bennett, Doug Bennett, Ginny Craig and Mary Long. He was employed in the grocery business with Wise Snacks and Frito Lay. Barney served in the Army, and was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. Barney dedicated his life to serving others. He spent the last 17 years tutoring countless numbers of children at John A. Winship Elementary School. He was truly a man of faith, love and Christ. He loved his church family at Resurrection Lutheran Church and enjoyed being active with VBS. He was an avid sports enthusiast and a man of great character and humor. His greatest love was his precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 13 from 2:00-4:00pm at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church in Ethridge, TN.
