Mr. James Thomas "Tom" White, age 69 of Columbia, passed away Thursday evening, July 31, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens, with military honors provided by the United States Army. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Saturday, August 2 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Tom was born September 12, 1944 in Maury County and was the son of the late John William and Virginia Davis White. He served his country in the United States Army and was of the Baptist faith. Tom was well known, and will be remembered, as a person who would help anybody in need, even when he didn't have the means. His family says he was "a workaholic" and a true entrepreneur. He could sell anything and enjoyed making deals. Tom lived a simple life and loved to be around friends and family. He was known to have a great sense of humor and was quick to pull a prank on somebody. He is survived by his first wife: Fay Dodson of Ethridge with 3 children: Tommy White, Sharon (Zane) Wells and Kenny (Sherri) White; and 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; also by his second wife: Penny Orr of Williamsport with 3 children: Carrissa (Brandon) White, Tiffany (Terry) Roland and Wayne (Beth) King; and 9 grandchildren; and a brother: Virgil White, all of Columbia. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Roy White. Pallbearers will be: Quade Lunn; Terry Roland; Lance Crumley; Billy Pruitt; Dusty Winn; Danny McDonald. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Joe Green; Don Gray; Eddie Phillips; James Cummins Couch; Brandon Hudsteth; and Ronnie Dixon.
