George Earl Owen

September 6, 1922 - July 26, 2014

Mr. George Earl Owen, age 91 a resident of Poplar Estates, Columbia; passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 6 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Derek Hunter officiating. The family will also visit with friends for visitation on Wednesday one hour prior to the service from 5-6 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Mr. Owen was born on September 6, 1922 in Harrisburg, IL to the late Earl Owen and the late Minnie Barter Owen. Mr. Owen graduated college with a Civil Engineering degree. Prior to retirement he was a construction engineer with Barter Construction and Anderson Construction. In his pastime, Mr. Owen loved to golf, watch NASCAR, Baseball and Basketball. He enjoyed tinkering around building homes for his family. He was a member in the Masonic Lodge (320 Mason), Fraternal Order of the Moose and the Civil Engineer Society. He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories, his wife: Shirley N. Owen; daughters: Nancy (Randy) Davidson; Patty (Eddie) Truluck and Janet (Dale) Richmond; sons: David Owen and Tim Owen; grandchildren: Amanda (Bryan) Sheets; Andy (Allison) Owen; Kristen Cumbie; Shabahn (Brad) Massey; Brandon (Brooke) Kierce; Lake Owen; Kyler Richmond and Jonathan Richmond; great-grandchildren: Karli Massey; Kendall Massey; Sayla Kierce; and Blane Richmond. In addition to his parents; Mr. Owen is preceded in death by his former wife: Elaine Owen; sisters: Imogene Berry and Eloise Williams. The family wishes to thank the Poplar Estates Community, and the staff at Maury Regional Medical Center for their special care and support.
