Zennie Bailey

August 30, 1939 - July 12, 2014

Mrs. Zennie Bailey, age 74 of Columbia, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 14, 2014 at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Gary Bailey. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Culleoka. The family will be at the funeral home on Sunday, July 13 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM for visitation, and again from 11:00 AM until the service hour on Monday. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Mrs. Bailey was born August 30, 1939 in Winchester, TN, was the daughter of William and Martha Gipson Bohanan, and was a member of the Mooresville Pike Baptist Church. Zennie dedicated her life to family. In addition to her husband and their biological children, they opened their home to foster children for over 23 years. Whether it was something with pinto beans or pineapple upside-down cake, Zennie always had something wonderful prepared for her family. In her free time she became the "Yard Sale Queen". She simply couldn't pass by one without stopping, even up until recently when her health just wouldn't allow. Her greatest finds would include any picture frames or windchimes. She is survived by her husband of 55 years: Grant Bailey of Columbia; six children: Tim (Jamie) Bailey of Culleoka, Mark Bailey of Petersburg, Sara Wray of Columbia, Roger Bailey of Nashville, William York of Shelbyville and Linda Hodge of Columbia; a special son-in-law: Ted Wray; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 5 brothers: George, Charles, Tommy, Billy and Lonnie Bohanan; 2 sisters: Dorothy "Dot" Mooney and Louise "Suby" Ricketts; a daughter-in-law: Lou Ann Bailey; and a precious dog: Pebbles. Pallbearers will be Herbert Ricketts Jr, Kenneth Gipson, Gerald Bohanan, Greg Bohanan, Steve Bohanan, Stanley Bohanan, Tinker Bohanan, David Bohanan and Eric Bohanan. The family requests that honorary pallbearers be Dr. Thomas Numnum and the staff of Sarah Cannon Cancer Center at Centennial Medical, as well as Dr. Hrishi Kanth and the staff of Core Physicians in Columbia. They also wish to extend their deep appreciation for the care they each provided.
