Heather Denise Morton Powell

Heather Denise Morton Powell, age 22 of Hohenwald, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 in Lobelville. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Richard VanCleave. Burial will follow in the Garden of Eternity at Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to the funeral home. The family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 9 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM for visitation, and again on Thursday from noon until the service. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Heather was born in Columbia on August 7, 1991 and was the daughter of Gregory Lee Morton and Kimberly Denise Gordon. During high school she played basketball and enjoyed swimming, especially her time with the dolphins. Her faith was shared with her church family at Rock Springs Baptist Church. Heather will be best remembered by her nickname, "Smiley". She is described as having a big heart and was caring and giving. Her passion was expressed in her love for her beautiful children. Her smile and precious personality will be missed by her friends and family. She is survived by her husband: Steve Michael Powell of Lawrenceburg; two precious children: Braxton Wayne Powell and Carmah Alexis-Lou Powell, both of Lawrenceburg; mother: Kimberly Denise "Kim" Gordon of Hohenwald; father and step-mother: Gregory Lee and Joy Lee Morton of Columbia; two brothers: Shane Gregory Morton and Cody Lane Morton of Columbia; a sister: Shelby Lee Morton of Spring Hill; step-sister: Alison Jade Chapman of Pulaski; paternal grandmother: Bobbie Jean Morton; paternal great-grandmother: Margie Marie Clark, both of Columbia; and one niece and one nephew. Heather was preceded in death by her grandparents: Wayne Morton and Linda & Clyde Gordon; and an uncle: Terry Morton. Pallbearers will be Mike Gordon, Cody Morton, Jacob Morton, BayBay Morton, Facey Morton and Terry Keith Morton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made on their behalf to assist with arrangements at Heritage Funeral Home, 609 Bear Creek Pike, Columbia, TN 38401.
