Clara Lee Holt Vandiver

July 13, 1919 - June 8, 2014

Clara Lee Holt Vandiver, age 94 of Columbia and widow of Sam "Buddy" Vandiver, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 10:00AM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Ricky Cotton officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday from 4-8PM at Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia, and again one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. A native of Cross Bridges, TN, Clara was born on July 13, 1919 and was the daughter of the late J.C. and Sally Gray Holt. Clara married Sam "Buddy" Vandiver in 1941. Together, they managed Direct Oil Company for about ten years. Clara loved quilting and crocheting in her spare time. She was a long time member of the Cross Bridges Baptist Church. She is survived by her son: Allen Vandiver of Columbia; daughter: Betty Dixon of Columbia; grandchildren: Johnny Hill of Columbia; great-grandchildren: Brandon Hill and Michael Hill, both of Columbia; and great-great granddaughter: Clara Hill of Columbia; and a former grand-daughter-in-law: Teri Hill. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Mary Massey, Annie Mae Matlock, Beatrice Radmacher, Pearl Dale, and Nettie McCandless; and brothers: Jim Holt and Floyd Holt. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Sunday School Class at Cross Bridges Baptist Church. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and technicians at Life Care of Columbia for taking such good care of Clara for the 3 ½ years that she was with them.
