March 8, 1941 - May 18, 2014

GT Carter, age 73, husband of Darleen Carter, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Sunday evening, May 18, 2014 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 6:00pm in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Hubert Cunningham officiating. The family will visit with friends from 5pm until the service hour at 6pm. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. GT was born March 8, 1941 in Flint, Michigan, and was the son of the late William and Emogene Carter. Being one of the original 99ers of Saturn, he was a retired GM employee of 42 years. His passion was golfing, especially enjoying playing at Dixie Oaks in Summertown. He was a lifelong sports fan, and also loved woodworking and traveling. Along with his wife Darleen, GT is survived by his daughters: Kathy (Jim) Momany, Carolyn (Tony) Totzke, and Sarah (Fernando) Carvalho; sons: Daniel (Kathey) Carter, and John (Michelle) Kenley; seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren; brothers: Frank (Delores) Carter, Ed (Donna) Carter, and Robert (Cherie) Carter; sister: Margaret (Robert) Craton; He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Bill Carter and Fred Carter. The family requests memorials are made to the American Heart Association at 1818 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203.
