Alette Hood

October 28, 1933 - May 18, 2014

Mary Alette Hood, age 80 of Columbia, passed away Sunday morning, May 18, 2014 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Jeff Jacob. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Alette was born October 28, 1933 in Maury County and was the daughter of the late Robert Hood and Ethel Thompson Hood. She was a graduate of Columbia Central High School, a homemaker, and member of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church in Columbia. She will be remembered for her love of cooking and gardening. In past years she was active in the Home Demonstration Club and being with family. She enjoyed watching cooking shows, but was also known to spend time on QVC, HSN, and CNN. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Frank C. Hood; a daughter: Teresa Lynn Steen Jones; brother: Robert C. Hood; and sister: Jolene Thurman. She is survived by her sons: Archie L. (Diane) Steen, Jr. of Columbia and John (Diane) Hood of Hendersonville; a daughter: Jo Ann Hood of Nashville; brother: Billy Allen (Terri Jo) Hood of Columbia; two sisters: Joyce (Ted) Houston of Columbia and Betty (Walker) Huey of Nashville; 4 grandchildren: Elizabeth (Glenn) Nicks, Archie L. Steen III, Kelley Hood and Moneka Hood (Kristian) Prock; 7 great-grandchildren: Emily, Elijah, Trinity, Travis, Madesyn, Ashton and Bella. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Steven Hood, Troy Hood, Kelley Hood, Kristian Prock, Gerald Hood, Jr., Chuck Hood, and Archie L. Steen III. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Craft Memorial United Methodist Church, 907 Hatcher Ln, Columbia, TN 38401
