Mr. Scott Roberts, age 54, a resident of Columbia, passed away Saturday morning, May 10, 2014 at his residence. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Scott's home. All of Scott's friends are invited and welcome to come celebrate his life. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born on November 15, 1959 in Galesburg, Illinois, Scott was the son of the late Bill Roberts and Darlene Overman Snyder. He was a college graduate who worked in sales, and in his youth he was a great athlete who enjoyed playing golf and tennis a great deal. In his later years his body was ravaged terribly by rheumatoid arthritis which made these loves impossible for Scott to participate in. He then reigned to shooting pool and socializing with his friends. Scott was one of those unique people who would attract people to him and could rarely step into a public place without seeing someone smiling, waving and hollering, "Hey Skippy." Scott was not a person to seek out riches. He was perfectly happy if his financial responsibilities were satisfied. He was happy as long as he was able to spend time socially with his many friends and acquaintances, many of which are feeling the comfort of knowing Scott will no longer have to deal with his crippling pain but also feeling the tremendous loss of a dear man who was taken away too soon. Words from his dear friend, Jeff, "Rest in Peace "Skippy" knowing you will be missed by many whose lives were touched by you, we'll meet one day on the first tee of the greatest golf course there is." He is survived by his mother and step-father: Darlene and Marion Snyder of Knoxville, TN; step-daughter: Shelby Mason of Knoxville, TN; brothers: Jeff (Debbie) Roberts of Springfield, Missouri, Michael (Sharri) Parkinson of O'Fallon, Missouri; sisters: Kelli (Woody) McDorman of Galesburg, Illinois, Suzi (Eddie) Kuehn of Naples, Florida, Nancy (Layton) Sandall of Galesburg, Illinois, Barb Parkinson of Galesburg, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephew. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his step-father: Bob Parkinson. Memorial donations may be made to the family.
