Mr. Virgil Elwood Wells, age 83 of Lawrenceburg, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at NHC-Scott Healthcare. Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 2:00 PM from the First United Pentecostal Church in Lawrenceburg, officiated by Bro. David Martin. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Mr. Wells was born August 15, 1930 in Engle, Arkansas, and was the son of William and Bonnie Woodworth Wells. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He labored in construction, but spent his free time tending his garden or searching for shark teeth on the Florida beaches. He enjoyed following the Atlanta Braves and researching Native American History, but his true passion was being outside experiencing nature. The greatest legacy of his life will be felt through his family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Betty Randolph Wells of Lawrenceburg; 2 sons: Darrel Len Wells of Tellico Plains and Virgil Duane Wells of Lawrenceburg; 2 daughters: LaDonna Sue Grooms of Lawrenceburg and Yolanda Michelle Tripp of Summertown; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Fannie Bell Graddy and Pat Lowery.
