Ruth Martin

August 22, 1924 - April 14, 2014

Edna Ruth Martin, age 89, a resident of Waddy, Kentucky, previously of Columbia, TN, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014 at Signature Health Care in Spencer County, Kentucky. Ruth was born on August 22, 1924 in Maury County, TN and was the daughter of the late Mary Price and the late O.E. Price, Sr. She retired from Charles C. Parks Company in Columbia. She attended West End Baptist Church. She had a passion for children; she adored children, and children loved her. She had a daycare in her own home where she cared and loved for many children over the years. At church, she enjoyed visiting and working in the nursery and with the kids. Ruth especially loved her own grandchildren. She was very supportive of her kids and grandkids while they were in the marching band at Columbia Central High School. She and her husband often chaperoned the marching band students on the bus during trips. Ruth also enjoyed needle-work and continued to embroider up until her health failed her. Her caretakers commented at how amazed they were at how much joy and happiness Ruth had, especially when the church members visited and she joined in praising the Lord in song. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Ruth had three children with her husband James Charlie Martin: her daughter: the late Janet Martin Young, son: James (Starla) Martin of Waddy, KY, and daughter: Mary Taylor of Smyrna, TN. She is survived by her brothers: Charles (Mary) Price of Boise, Idaho, Ollie (Ruby) Stewman of Knoxville, TN; ten grandchildren: Jessica Young Harding, Abigail Martin, Caleb Martin, Elisabeth (Brian) Peach, Levi Martin, Jacob Martin, Joseph Martin, Isaac Martin, Daniel Martin, Gideon Martin; two great-grandchildren: Baleigh and Jackson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: James Charlie Martin; brothers: O.E. Price, Jerry Price, sisters: Cornelia NcNeill, Dorothy London; and son-in-law: Jerry Taylor. Ruth's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorial Donations may be made to the The Gideons International: 50 Century Blvd, Nashville, TN 37214. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Elsey officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.
