Wendell Walker, age 66 of Martin Drive in Columbia, passed into eternal life after an extended illness on Friday, March 28, 2014 at his residence, with his loved one at his side. The family will gather with friends for visitation at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 4, 2014 at Heritage Funeral Home. A Homegoing Celebration will begin at 1:00 PM on Friday, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home, officiated by Bro. Ken Fleming. Burial will follow with military honors, provided by the United States Army, in Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Born in Columbia on January 29, 1948, Wendell was the son of Tommy Bullock and Mattie Belle Walker. He served his country in the United States Army and was a life-long member and minister of the Gospel in the Churches of Christ. He attended the Dry Fork Church of Christ until his death. In addition to his ministry, he also was formerly employed with Heil Quaker Corporation in Lewisburg and was a top salesman with Mutual Savings. Wendell was a motivator and encourager. He was known to tirelessly tend his garden, only to give the produce to friends by leaving it at their doorstep, never seeking attention for his gift. He would light up a room simply by walking in. Although he didn't call attention to himself, you "knew" when Wendell walked in the room! Whether he was dressed in his Sunday best or simple farm clothes, Wendell was always one of the first people at the home when a family suffered a loss. His compassion and love for others will be missed. Preceded in death by his mother, he left to mourn his passing his father: Tommy Bullock of Pittsburg, PA; his wife and caregiver: Polly W. Walker of Columbia; a son: Adrian Walker of Columbia; daughter: Rosaletta "Lisa" Walker of Mt. Pleasant; brothers: James (Mildred) Caruthers, Thomas (Mickie) Caruthers and (devoted) Danny Caruthers, all of Columbia, and David B. Bullock of Pittsburg, PA; sisters: Doris (Samuel) Davis, Renada (Anthony) Webster and Ann (JB) Martin all of Columbia, and Paulette (Earnest) Frances of Lewisburg; four grandchildren; aunts: Charlene (Eddie) Bills, Sue Bullock Lindsay, Sally Bullock Pulse and Georgia Bullock Price; and uncle: Wilson (Mary) Walker. A host of extended family also survives, including seven sisters-in-law: Mary Turntine Holt, Annie Turntine Warfield, Betty Turntine Willaimson, Hattie Turntine Buckley, Sarah Turntine, Lena Turntine and Roberta Turntine Gary; and a brother-in-law: Alvin Turntine.
