Larry W. Tomlin, age 65 of Columbia, passed away March 23, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 28, 2014 at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 12:00 until the funeral hour at 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral is in charge of the arrangements. A native of Spring Hill, Larry was born July 23, 1948 and was the son of John Tomlin and Rena Cozart. He was a former employee of Union Carbide and had served his country in the United States Army. Larry and his wife, Linda, served as foster parents for 17 years. During that time they opened their home and shared their love to 118 children. An avid UT fan, Larry also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Of course everything was better with a diet Sun Drop in his hand! His family recalls, "If he was picking on you, he liked you." They also will remember him as a great cook and influence to so many. He is survived by his children: Tammy Tomlin and Richard Lucas of Columbia, and Leroy Tomlin of Florida; a special great-niece: Kayla (David) Basford of Columbia; brothers: Jimmy Brady and Paul Brady of Erin, TN and Johnny (Jeanetta) Tomlin of Columbia; brothers-in-law: Mike Haywood of Columbia and Johnny Haywood of Missouri; a sister-in-law: Shirley Haywood Cooper of Columbia; 2 grandchildren: Shelene Tomlin and Karen Workman; a great-great nephew: Johnathan Basford; special friends and caregivers: James & Cathy Martin of Columbia; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: Linda Faye Haywood Tomlin; and a brother: Vance Brady.
