Robert H. "Bob" Brown, age 83, husband of Mary Ann LaDuke Brown and a resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 7th at 1:00 pm from the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home, officiated by Calvin Lunn. Burial will follow, with military honors provided by the United States Navy, at the Arbors in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 at Heritage Funeral Home. Bob was born on May 30, 1930 in Tompkinsville, KY to Robert H. and Mossy Ree Bushong Brown. They later moved to Louisville KY. After graduating from Male High School, Bob and a few of his closest friends joined the Navy. During the Korean War he earned 2 Battle Stars, while serving on the USS Oriskany and the USS Essex. He was on the first air craft carrier to sail around the Cape. After serving the Navy he went to work at SHEA Chemical in Jeffersonville, IN. He was transferred to Columbia in 1960 to work for Occidental Chemical as a purchasing agent and traffic manager and retired after 38 years of service. Bob jumped right in civic duties in Columbia. He was on the original Board of Directors for Pop Warner Football, coached American Little League and Boy's City Basketball, served as president of Maury Amateur Radio Club, was Drive Chairman for Maury County March of Dimes, a member of the American Legion, and was a member of the Wagon Wheelers Square Dance Club. He also held the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel, which is a prestigious award in Kentucky. Along with his wife of 59 years: Mary Ann, he is survived by his daughter: Jo Ann Brown; a son: Bo Brown; grand-daughters: Rachel & Caleb Garrett, and Kristin Brown & Clay Colvett; and a daughter-in-law: Dawn(Scott) Liggett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Mark Edwin Brown; and a great-grandson: Mark Joseph "MJ" Colvett. Pallbearers will be Randy Walters, Harry Parish, Randy Miller, Terry Ellis, Mike Lutrell, Jimmy Campbell, Gene Givans and Jerry Corvin. Honorary Pallbearers will be Buddy Martin, Dale Hill, Wayne Stacey, Bill Milligan, Dale Adams, Jack Johnson and Eddie Baker. Memorial Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or the charity of your choice.
