Harold was born in Maury County on March 4, 1947. He was the son of the late Dewey and Lillie May Cates. Harold served in the Army, fighting in the Vietnam War. He was a hard worker. He worked at Spontex, often working overtime and never complaining. He was a very unselfish person, always putting others first. When his mother was alive, there was not a day that went by that he did not go see her. Some of his hobbies included fishing, car auctions, and going to car shows. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. You could often find him, known as "PawPaw" to the grandkids, with his car loaded taking them to the skating rink. He was also a professional wrestler at the GrandSlam USA. Some of his passions were sitting on the screened porch with his wife and doing yard work. A well said statement about Harold by his wife, "He was a good man." He will be missed by all who knew him. Harold is survived by his wife of 45 years, Wanda James Cates; daughter: Amy Crigger of Columbia; brothers: Retha Dale (Nancy) Cates of Williamsport, and Bobby Wayne (Debbie Jean) Cates of Columbia; grandchildren: Austin Crigger and Colby Crigger; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters: Opal Cates, Dorothy Chapman, Shirley Ketchum, an infant sister Brend Cates, and Allie Cates; brothers: Gene Cates, Velton Cates, Velvis Cates, and Billy Cates.
