Ruby Modisette

August 19, 1925 - February 15, 2014

Ruby Modisette, age 88 of Lawrenceburg, formerly of Houston, TX, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014 at NHC Healthcare in Pulaski. The family will celebrate her life with a memorial service in Houston. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Ruby was born August 19, 1925 in Little Creek, Louisiana and was the daughter of James Elijah McLendon and Stella Hudson McLendon. She studied and served as a LPN, and also became an ordained minister in the Assemblies of God. She was married June 16, 1941 to Herman Modisette and worked side by side for the next 56 years, until his death in 1998. She served and preached to the "Skid Row" area of Houston, as well as in the prison ministry. Ms. Ruby, as many knew her, lived her faith in service to others. She valued work, education and service to others. She demanded perfection of herself in order to draw the best out of those around her. Her clear opinions never left you questioning what she thought or believed. Having grown up during the depression, she learned to care for herself as well as those around her. Her progressive thinking and ideas of joining the ministry were often met with resistance by church leaders, but her compassion and servant's spirit blessed her ministry. Ms. Ruby is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Dean and Jeanne Modisett of Lawrenceburg; and three grandchildren: Alan (Maria) Modisette and Teri Modisette, both of Houston, TX, and Jason Modisett of Lawrenceburg.
