Floyd Pigg

September 22, 2013

Floyd Pigg, Sr., age 80, of the Stiversville Community, died at his home on Sunday, September 22, 2013. Mr. Pigg was born in Lawrence County but spent most of his boyhood and all of his adulthood in Maury County. He graduated from Mynders School, where he enjoyed playing baseball. In December 1954, he married Margaret Stokes. After service in the United States Army, he and his wife moved to the Stiversville Community, where he spent the rest of his life. Mr. Pigg was employed for many years by Southern LP Gas Company, which was later known as Petrolane. When he left the propane business, he worked full-time as a farmer, raising many acres of tobacco. Mr. Pigg's passion in life was training horses and mules. He trained his last pair of mules just last year. His expertise as a trainer was legend in a town known as "The Mule Capital of the World." His grandsons even called him "Muledaddy." Mr. Pigg was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Nellie Jane (Cummings) Pigg; his older brother, Raymond Pigg; and his sister-in-law, Ida Lou Pigg. He is survived by his wife of nearly fifty-nine years, Margaret; daughter, Karen (Dwayne) Martin; son, Floyd (Tammy)Pigg, Jr.; his only grandchildren: Jared and Stephen Martin; and a step-grandson, Cody Trull; sisters: Jean (Jerry) Caldwell, Frances Dickson, and Faye (Jack) Roundtree; brothers: Lewis (Jessica) Pigg, Carl (Becky) Pigg; sisters-in-law: Doris Pigg and Joanne Pigg; beloved nieces and nephews; his Stokes in-laws; and special friends Ed Smith and Linda Alzmanza, and the Mark Haynes Family. The family wishes to thank the staff of Maury Regional Medical Center for the excellent care Mr. Pigg received during his extended stay prior to returning home on Saturday, September 21. Particular thanks goes to the nurses in the Skilled Nursing Unit and Dr. Deborah L. Goldsmith. It was Mr. Pigg's wish that there be no service to honor his memory. His body will be cremated with his ashes scattered on a hill of his farm. Mark Haynes will drive the team pulling the wagon to the site he chose. All who wish to join the family at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2013 are welcome. Condolences may be sent to the family at the top of this page.
