James R. Graham

August 11, 1953 - May 6, 2013

Mr. James Ricky Graham, age 59, husband of Barbara Jeannie Graham, and resident of Knox Court in Columbia, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013 at Maury Regional Medical Center. A memorial service for Ricky will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Gary Bailey officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will also visit with friends on Thursday two hours prior to the service, from noon until 2:00 PM, at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of arrangements. A native of Columbia, Ricky was born on August 11, 1953 to Joseph H. and Jean Potts Graham. He was a 1971 graduate of Columbia Central High School, and he married the love of his life, Jeannie, on June 30, 1973. He served six years in the National Guard. Ricky was of the Lutheran faith, and had worked in maintenance for WR Grace. Ricky enjoyed about any sport to be played. For many years he played slow-pitch softball, but also had a passion for Indianapolis Colts football even before Peyton. Fishing and being around Deer Creek Camp were always favorite pastimes. He loved watching Mark Martin race in NASCAR. When Halloween came around, Rickys zest for life and having fun really came out. He loved decorating for the holiday, and creating special yard art throughout the year. Everyone elses children were Rickys children. He loved doing things for them and sharing with them. They simply called him Ganpa. Ricky found relaxation in southern rock music and making his famous salsa and deer jerky. His kindness and compassion toward others, putting them first, will be missed most by his family and friends. Left to honor and celebrate Rickys life is his wife: Barbara Jeannie Whitehead Graham; parents: Joseph & Jean Potts Graham; a sister and brother-in-law: Sandra (Larry) Gean, all of Columbia; and brother and sister-in-law: David E. (Sherry) Graham of Mt. Juliet. In addition, he is survived by his extended family: Mary Sue (Gerald) Greggs, Sandy (Dennis) Collins, Jimmy (Denise) Butler, and David Whitehead; as well as very special friends Debbie, Lindy, and Erin Gray, and his beloved dog: Bud. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Al & Elizabeth Graham; maternal grandparents: Clyde & Lillian Potts; and mother-in-law: Remona Louise Butler. Condolences may be sent to the family at the top of this page.
