Mrs. Barbara Ann Gowan Schrimsher, age 69, and a resident of Galloway Street in Columbia, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at her residence. Funeral services for Mrs. Gowan will be Friday, April 19, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 4-7 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of arrangements. A native of Maury County, Barbara was born on October 5, 1943 and was the daughter of the late Fate and Elizabeth Tomlin Gowan. She was of the Baptist faith and spent her life caring for her children. As her daughter stated, She could not have been a better mother. Barbara enjoyed knitting and yard work and would often have notes left in her mailbox expressing how beautiful her yard was. She even had a special rose bush that she kept alive and beautiful for twenty-three years. Barbara was loved by her family, and her caring and loving heart will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind to cherish her memory two daughters: Kimberly (Aubrey T.) Duncan and Beth Matthews, both of Columbia; son: Howard Thomas Vaughn, Jr. of Pennsylvania; three brothers: Larry, Harry, and Billy Gowan all of Columbia; and two sisters: Ruth Hill and Frances Hall both of Columbia. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Michelle Hickman, Michael Vaughn, Jacob Matthews, Mason Austin, Kaiden Smith, Holly Whittaker, and Brittany Vaughn; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Ronald Schrimsher; three brothers: Sammy, Charles and Fred Gowan; and a great-grandchild: Billy Bob Hickman. Pallbearers will be Tommy Vaughn, Jr., Michael Vaughn, Jeff Hill, Ray Hall, Aubrey Duncan, and Tony Sullivan. You may share condolences with the family at the top of this page.
