Mr. Thompson Tom James Block, age 74, husband of Elaine Alma Block, and lifelong resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, current resident of Columbia, TN, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012 at NHC-Hillview. Memorial services will be Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. The family will also visit with friends on Saturday from 12:00 PM until the service hour. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements. Born in New Orleans, LA on February 18, 1938, Tom was the son of the late Edward and Wilhemina Block. He previously worked as a truck driver for Aamaco in Illinois. He was affiliated with St. Phillips Church in Franklin and Corpus Christi Catholic Church in New Orleans. He and his wife, Elaine, were married for over 56 years. He was a wonderful father who loved his family. He enjoyed playing golf, house-hold projects, watching TV, traveling, and listening to jazz music. Tom especially liked southern cooking. He often visited the French Quarters and historical sites in New Orleans. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Peter T. Block of New Orleans; daughter, Marylynn Block of Columbia; two grandchildren: Gilbert Darby III, Bianca Yanna Baptiste both of Columbia; and two great-grandchildren: China Darby of Georgia and Kevin Andrew Moses, Jr. of Columbia.
