Mary Ellene Sewell

October 2, 1929 - June 26, 2012

Ms. Mary Ellene Sewell, age 82, wife of Homer Dee Sewell and the owner of Sewell Antiques on Bear Creek Pike in Columbia, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center. A Funeral Service for Mrs. Sewell will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Dr. Milton Sewell officiating. A private interment held by the family will take place later at Maury Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Thursday, June 28, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and then again on Friday one hour prior to the service. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of arrangements. A native of Russelville, Alabama she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eugene & Bernice Fulton. During high school, she was a very talented member of the marching band; playing seven different instruments. She married Homer Dee Sewell in 1948 and they moved to Tennessee in 1952. She was a member of the Northview Church of Christ. This loving, caring and full of life lady was very outgoing. It seemed as though she loved everyone she met and was always willing to help everyone she could. She loved animals and schnauzers in particular. She and her husband enjoyed walking their dogs in the park together. Not only was she musically gifted, but she was also a very talented painter. Her family will continue to cherish her oil paintings that brought her notoriety regionally for years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Her grandchildren thought of her as a second mom instead of a grandparent. Her love for antiques led her to open her own store which has been a blessing to our community for forty-five years. Her love for life and giving heart will truly be missed by all. In addition to her husband of 64 years, she left behind to cherish her memory one son, Larry D. Sewell of Columbia, TN; one daughter, Andrea (Gregg) Parsons of Columbia, TN; three grandchildren: Emily Moore of Columbia, TN and Matt & Josh Moore both of Murfreesboro, TN; and very dear neighbor and close friend, Maynell Walker. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, William D. Fulton and her sister, Imogene Fulton Wallace.
