Reginald Alfred Bowes

September 15, 1933 - November 20, 2012

Mr. Reginald A. Bowes, age 79 of Franklin, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on November 20, 2012.

His family will celebrate his life with private services, concluding in Vancouver, British Columbia. Heritage Funeral Homeof Franklin is assisting the family with arrangements.

Reg was born September 15, 1933 in Cochrane, Ontario, Canada toWilliam Bowes and Catherine Szewczyk Bowes. He was one of the co-founders of VICOM, based in San Francisco. Reg worked as a Marketing Director in Pharmaceutical Advertising, being honored numerous times during his career. He was inducted into the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame in 2001. He excelled in his endeavors, repeatedly stating, If its worth doing, its worth overdoing. Reg was known to create original ideas in marketing, mixed with a 1960s spirit of rebellion, a passion for intellectual pursuits of all kinds, unconventional dress, and an often undiplomatic style with clients and colleagues. Part of his unconventional spirit was expressed when Reg represented Tennessee as the model for the 2000 Spencer Tunick film documentary, Naked States , posing in front of the Parthenon in Nashville.

He moved to Nashville because he loved and also wrote country music. Prior to that, while living in New York, he started the independent record label "Manhattan Country."

Reg is survived by his wife: Leah Mellman Bowes of Franklin; a daughter: Kelly (Mark) Turner of Milwaukee, WI; son: Jim (Monique) Bowes of Amsterdam, the Netherlands; a sister: Grace Cullen; and brother: Gerald Gerry (Pat) Bowes, both of Vancouver, British Columbia; and three grandchildren: Portia Turner, Tuxford Turner, and Rowan Bowes.

Donations may be made in memory of Reg to Happy Tales Humane at 230 Franklin Road, Suite 1303 in Franklin, TN 37064. You may share condolences with the family at the top of this page.
