Sara Stanfill Johnson

July 27, 1941 - September 20, 2012

Mrs. Sara Stanfill Johnson, age 71, a resident of 2914 Brookside Drive in Columbia, formerly of the Santa Fe Community, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012 following an extended illness. Her loving family was by her side. A Funeral Service for Mrs. Johnson will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Sis. Inez Jones and Keith Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Hilltown Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Friday, September 21, 2012 from 4:00 PM unit 8:00 PM and then again one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge and assisting the family. A native of Santa Fe, Tennessee, she was the wife of Bertie D. (PeeWee) Johnson. She was the daughter of the late Dolfus and Pearl (Hill) Stanfill. She was a 1959 graduate of Santa Fe High School and had retired from the GE Corporation. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church. This extremely loving mother and grandmother was thought of as a 'mother' to many. Over the years, people discovered that her genuine love for the Lord and all of His creation, afforded them the opportunity to receive from her kindness in numerous ways. Her family fondly recalled her love for cooking. She enjoyed cooking for her family and all those people that she held dear. She enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her flowerbeds. Her love extended to animals as well. As a matter of fact, she had a pet cemetery in her back yard. Her enormous love for animals is what led her to the four 'children' that were close to her in her later years. These were of the four legged kind: Cocoa, Lacey, Sophie and Cadence. She was known for always being willing to lend a 'helping hand' to others. Her children and grandchildren brought her such pride and joy and this was evident when talking with her. Heaven is a little sweeter today with her presence there. In addition to her loving husband, she left behind to cherish her memory her son, Roy Dean (Regina) Johnson of Bellevue, TN; her daughter, Rhonda (Randy) Hardison of Spring Hill, TN; her step-daughter, Debbie (Lee) Lane of Bellevue, TN; two brothers: Eddie Ray (Sue) Stanfill of Santa Fe, TN and John (Joy) Thomas of Primm Springs, TN; a sister, Katherine Prince of Columbia, TN; nine grandchildren: Jessica White, Jonathan White, Jessica Hardison, Alison Hardison, Samuel Hardison, Rebecca Appleton, Christina Appleton, Dustin Lane, and Janet (Tyler) Johnson King; five great grandchildren: Kate King, Melanie Crutcher, Maverick Crutcher, Sophia Willoughby, and Farrah Appleton; four nieces: Donna Gibbs, Wanda Kelley, Beverly Stanfill and Carla Morton; and nephew, Jim Morton. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a step-son, Jerry Wayne Johnson and three brothers: Jack, Raymond and Lester Stanfill. Pallbearers will include: Gilbert Prosser, Tony Stanfill, Ricky Stanfill, Robin Stanfill, Jeff Stanfill, Samuel Hardison, Jonathan White, and Jackie Gibbs. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Ronnie Wayne Davidson, Doug Johnson, Jimmy Rippey, Eddie Lee, Billy Crowe and Donald Sneed, and a host of friends too numerous to count or name. Memorials may be made to Paws of Maury County, 1233 Mapleash Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401. You may send condolences to the family at the top of this page.
