Retired Metro Fire Captain Jack T. Dier, age 77 of Westfield Rd in Dickson, passed away on Saturday morning, June 16, 2012 at his residence. Services to celebrate Jacks life will be conducted on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 3:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Dickson, TN, officiated by Rev. Allen Weller. Military Honors will be presented at the service by the United States Army. Burial will follow at a later date in the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on McCrory Lane. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the 3:00 PM service. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Jack was born February 20, 1935 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and was the son of the late Joe Blanche Dier and Mildred Broussard Dier. He completed his high school education from Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge before entering the United State Army for a six-year period of service. He continued his service throughout his entire life. Following his military career, he continued to serve his community as the Metro (Davidson Co) Fire Captain for the next 30 years until his retirement. He was a certified paramedic as well as a retired member of the International Theatrical Stagehand Union. During his life he also served his Christian family and Creator through the First United Methodist Church of Dickson. There he was a greeter as well as the kind of man who would visit the hospitals and nursing homes, often without being asked. He cared for people simply because it was his calling and passion to love and serve. Throughout Jacks life, the idea of service arose. Few people will be remembered as he will for serving their country, community, family, and God as Jack did. He will be missed by those whose life he touched. In addition to his wife, Linda Gilliam Dier of Dickson, Jack is survived by two daughters: Tracey Dier (David) Nail of Baton Rouge, LA and Dee (Scott) Hard of McMinnville, TN; two brothers: Jesse Dier and Tony Dier of Baton Rouge, LA; two sisters: Bonnie Devall of Baton Rouge, LA and Anne Wilson of Shreveport, LA; four grandchildren: Ty Nelson Walters, Chase Christian Hard, Ashton Reid Disedare, and Courney Cherie Hard; and a great-grandson: Jaxson Reid Disedare. You may share condolences with the Dier family at the top of this page.
