Mr. Jerry Fleming McCandless, age 59, formerly of Santa Fe, died on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at his residence in Columbia, Tennessee, surrounded by his loved ones. A Memorial Service for Mr. McCandless will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Hunter Room of Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Ezell Rose and Keith Baker officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM funeral hour. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. A native of the Santa Fe community, he was the son of the late Fleming Stuart Swope McCandless and the late Nettie Holt McCandless Berry. He was a 1970 graduate from Santa Fe High School. He served our country in the US Army. He was an accomplished musician and songwriter and a gifted craftsman. Included with his talents, he was a gifted painter and talented artisan. He was a retired carpenter and presently was the owner of Fern Valley Leather and Gifts. In school his fellow classmates would tease him that he was so gifted because he was born on Elvis birthday. He loved to go horseback riding and he enjoyed life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He left behind to cherish his memory his long term girl friend of fifteen years, Connie Neal; sisters: Bonnie Dale of Lewisburg, TN, Faye (Eddie) Estes of Columbia, TN, and Linda (Bobby) Howell of Spring Hill, TN; brothers: Lanny McCandless or Rogersville, AL, Harry (Peggy) McCandless of Ethridge, TN, and Cornell (Sheila) McCandless of Lynnville, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Roy McCandless.
