Mr. Bennie Donovan "Don" Baggett, age 89, husband of Bobbie "Olive" Baggett and a resident of Shawnee Drive in Columbia Tennessee passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at his residence. A Funeral Service for Mr. Baggett will be held on Saturday at 10:00AM January 5, 2013 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Dusek and Rev. Rick Elsey officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements. A native of Tupelo, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Eugene Baggett and Jessie "Gaines" Baggett. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering and worked as an engineer with the Soil Conversation Service from which he retired after 37 years of faithful service. He was also a WWII veteran serving with the United States Navy. He was a member of West End Baptist Church in which he had served as a deacon since 1993. In his earlier years, he worked with the youth at the First Baptist Church in Bolivar, Tennessee. He and his wife Bobbie were wed for 67 years. His kind and loving nature will truly be missed by all of his family and friends but the assurance of knowing that he is in heaven with his Lord and Savior brings peace to all of them. In addition to his loving wife, he left behind to cherish his memory three daughters: Carol (John) Hazlegrove of Southhaven, MS, Pam Baggett of Franklin, TN, and Donna B. Fagan of' Columbia, TN; Grandchildren: Amy H. (Carl) Schweers and Blair (Christy) Hazlegrove; and Great grandchildren: Courtney, Mary Caroline, and Sarah Schweers. Pallbearers will include: Bill Summar, Jim Casselberry, Jim Vanbibber, Blair Hazlegrove, John Hazlegrove, and Carl Schweers. Honorary Pallbearers will be West End Baptist Church Deacon Body and Berean Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church: 900 West 7th St. Columbia, TN 38401.
