Marshall F. Buttram

June 17, 1937 - October 3, 2011

Mr. Marshall F. Buttram, age 74, husband of Dixie Buttram, and a resident of Lookout Drive in Columbia, Tennessee passed away on Monday, October 3, 2011 at Signature Health Care in Columbia. A private family Memorial Service is being held for Mr. Buttram. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of arrangements. A native of Pontiac, Michigan, he was the son of the late Charles Asbury Buttram and the late Glaphfrey Estelle Stalcup. He served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965. He was a retiree from the General Motors Saturn Plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee where he worked on the Assembly Line. Mr. Buttram was a quiet man until you got to know him. Once he formed a friendship with you, it was soon evident that this more reserved man became quite outgoing. He loved to talk with his neighbors and he genuinely loved his family. Mr. Buttram discovered that a dog truly was 'man's best friend' when his dog, Trixie adopted him over twelve years ago. When Trixie died this past August, it was very difficult for Mr. Buttram. Mr. Buttram's family and friends will truly miss all of his caring and unique ways. In addition to his wife Dixie, he left behind to cherish his memory one son, John Marshall Buttram of Tuscon, AZ; two daughters: Nita Schultz of Clarkston, MI and Lorene (Jonathan) Haupt of Irmo, SC; three step children: Sherrie (Ted) Houston of White Lake, MI, Rick Mason of Lawrenceburg, TN and Patricia Mason of Knoxville, TN; two grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Buttram, a sister, Jacquita (Ed) Vine and his faithful dog, Trixie. Memorials, in his honor, may be made to the local Animal Shelter or ASPCA.
