Mary Ann Smith, age 84, and a resident of Freedom Lane in Columbia passed away Monday morning, January 28, 2013 at her residence. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Hobert Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens. The family will also visit with friends on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the service hour at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements. Mary was born on June 5, 1928 in Perks, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Mae Johnson. She was of the Baptist faith and previously worked as a retail clerk for Circle K. Formerly of Flint, Michigan, she moved to Columbia to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She loved bowling, reading, playing cards, spending time with her family, and going to the casino. She also enjoyed listening to country music, shopping, antiquing, and garage sales. Mary valued her family and friends and will be remembered for her kindness and generosity to all. She is survived by two sons: Ted (Sno) Rainwater of Grand Blanc, MI, Rick Rainwater of Flint, MI; three daughters: Sheila Eycleshymer of Columbia, Kathy Marckese of Columbia, Anita (Jim) Thomas of Columbia; twelve grandchildren: David (Lee) Jackson, Buddy (Tracey) Jackson, Kelly Beggs, Tina Carr, Kessie Rainwater, Carrie Rainwater, Earl Rainwater, Kim (Roger) Dessaro, Dwayne (Cynthia) Thomas, Rebekah (Brian) Mims, Danny (Amy) Rainwater, Steve Rainwater; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by three brothers: Hiarm Johnson, Ernest Johnson, Howard Johnson; two sisters: Minnie Lang and Louise Dingman; two sons-in-law: Donald I. Eycleshymer, Salvatore A. Marckese; and loving friend and father to her children, Earl Rainwater. Pallbearers will be Dwayne Thomas, Brian Mims, Roger Dessaro, Buddy Jackson, David Jackson, and Tyler Jackson. The family wishes to express gratitude to Gina Munoz and the staff of Avalon Hospice Group. You may share condolences with the family at the top of this page.
