Roger Eugene Helms, Sr.

September 28, 1953 - February 11, 2014

Roger E. Helms, age 60, and a resident of Early Road in Columbia, TN passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at his residence. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 14th at 3:00pm in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Swango officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Eternity at Maury Memorial Gardens, next to Heritage Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends on Thursday, February 13th from 3:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Roger was born September 28, 1953 in Charlotte, NC and was the son of Augustus Eugene Helms and Rena Ann Lutz Helms, both of whom survive. He was married to the love of his life, Theresa Uhles Helms, and had recently celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary. Roger loved NASCAR and especially Dale Earnhart. He was a Titans football fan and enjoyed the unique sounds of George Jones and Elvis Presley. In addition to his loving wife and parents, he is survived by two sons: Roger Eugene (Tracy) Helms, Jr. of Nashville, TN, and Jeffery Scott (Sarah) Helms of Columbia, TN; two daughters: Donetia Lynn Garcia of Columbia, TN, and Kelly Leeann (Bruce) Norris of Columbia, TN; a brother: Michael Darren Helms of Chapel Hill, TN; and twelve grandchildren: Meghan Helms, Katie Helms, Madison Helms, Ruben Martinez, Gabriel Martinez, Magaly Martinez, Mason Norris, Dallas Norris, Angelica Garcia, Maressa Garcia, Jasmine Helms, and Emma Helms. Roger was preceded in death by his grandmother: Ruth Lovin; and a sister: Debbie Helms. Ronnie Adkins, Sr. and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
