Mr. Lovett was born May 11, 1930 in Maury County and the youngest son of Bufford Franklin Lovett and Mary Huckaby Lovett. He was a graduate of Columbia Central High School and member of Graymere Church of Christ. Dorris began working early in life. His first job was delivering papers at age 12. Soon after, he found the industry that would carry him through life. In 1946, he started working at the A&P. He married Mary Rinks (Billie ) on June 18, 1954 and shared his life with her for the past 59 years, until her passing on October 26th. A well known businessman in Maury County for years, Dorris was the owner of Lovett's IGA (now Super-Rama). This first store led to opening several others over the years. He became a produce wholesaler and began supplying Sam's Club stores in the mid-1980's, as well as many other locations. With so many local residents desiring quality produce, he also operated Lovett's Produce Stand. Dorris was a member of Graymere Country Club for forty three years. Although he enjoyed his career, he also found time for his RV and houseboating. He and his wife, Billie, enjoyed Florida where they spent a few months out of the year for the past 20 years. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Todd & Pam Lovett of Columbia; two grandchildren: Alexandria (Greg) Boyd and Haley Lynn Lovett; and a great-grandchild: Sawyer Boyd. In addition, he is survived by a sister-in-law: Betty Lovett of Columbia; and a niece and her husband: Terrie & Roy Wilson of Alabama. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older brother: John Edward Lovett. Pallbearers will be Billy Winn, Ben Woody, Marvin Brady, Eric Chappell, Allen Tate, Dale Tate, and Butch Tate. Honorary pallbearers will be Clemmine Sissy Jones, James & Mary Farris, Earl & Faye Cooper, and Linda Staggs. You may share condolences with the family at the top of this page.
