Mr. Donald Chappell, age 72, the husband of Delores Ann Chappell (known by all as Ann) and a resident of Steven Court in Columbia, Tennessee, passed on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center surrounded by his wife, family and friends. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements and assisting the family. A Franklin County Alabama native and a long time resident of Riverside, California, he was the son of the late Fred Chappell and the late Martha Jane Carpenter Chappell. He was of the Baptist Faith. Following his service to his country with the Marine Corp in 1964, he worked for Firestone Tire in Torrance, California until 1970 at which time he opened his own tire store, South Bay Tire. In 1984 he then began working with Global Tire in Los Angeles until his retirement in 2005. Upon retirement, he and his wife Delores Ann moved back to the south and found their home in Columbia, Tennessee. Mr. Chappell had many interests in life which included his membership with the American legion Post 500 of Mira Loma, CA, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Torrance, CA, and his family recalls his love for the University of Southern California. Following his retirement, he expanded his interests and took up golf. His caring and loving ways will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved him. In addition to his loving wife which he wed on May 29, 1965, he left behind to cherish his memory five brothers: Kenneth Martin (Sue) Chappell of Haleyville, AL, Jack Fraiser (late Ida) Chappell of Cleveland, OH, Ralph D. (late Bet) of Phil Campbell, AL, Raymond O. (Clara) Chappell of Buckhead, GA, and Gene Autry Byrd of Crossville, TN; Sister-in-law Shirley Chappell wife of his deceased brother Bobby of Muscle Shoals, AL; brother-in-laws: Delmas Lee (Toni) Perry of Harbor City, CA, Charles (Cory) Perry of Carlsbad, CA, and sister-in-law Gail (Joe) Campbell of Hemet, CA; several beloved nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; friends and neighbors: Jim and Jan Reason of Columbia, TN, Granny Foster of Santa Fe, TN, and Carl and Sheryl Bumgardner and Shelby and Colt of Columbia, TN and Becky Mallard of Columbia, TN, and Carly of Columbia and Clark Mallard of the U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents and brother, he was preceded in death by his step-mother Rose Bernice Ashmore Chappell.
