Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements. Born in Hampshire, Tennessee he was the son of the late Carl Jackson Southall and the late Faye (Clayton) Southall. He was of the Church of Christ faith. He served with the National Guard (771st Support Batallion) for over 20 years. He also worked with the Maury County Sheriffs Department and in March of this year he retired with the City of Columbia where he served as a Heavy Machine Operator with the Maintenance and Traffic Control Department for 22 years. He was a member of the Country Cruisers Car Club and the Sons of the Confederate Soldiers. He enjoyed tractor pulls, car shows and most assuredly he loved his Harley motorcycle; but his true love in life was his family. In talking with them, it was evident that Tony was a man who also loved people. He was always joking around and if you were the least bit down, he knew exactly what to say to cheer you up. In looking at his life, you could see that he was just a down home country boy who liked to help people , his daughter said. Truly, Tony will be missed by all his family and friends. Mr. Southall left behind to cherish his memory his wife, Nancy Slaughter Southall, his daughter, Cassandra Southall of Santa Fe; his grandson, Jayce Southall of Santa Fe; three step daughters: Stephanie Jones of Hohenwald, Jessica (Quan) Armstrong of Columbia; Emily Lumpkins of Santa Fe; his nephew, Matthew Crumley of Columbia; and his step grandchildren, Alayna Thompson, Josiah Armstrong, & Jay Thompson of Columbia along with Addison Grimes & Brayden Lumpkins, both of Santa Fe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Sandra Southall Crumley. Pallbearers will include: Tony Hinson, Jamie Smithson, Doug Lee, Dennis Adkisson, Matthew Crumley, Chris Clark, Mike Lynch and Randy Allan. Honorary pallbearers will include the City of Columbia Maintenance & Traffic Control Department employees.
