Mrs. Willie Jo Grooms, age 90, a resident of Sunnyside Drive in Columbia, died, Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services for Mrs. Grooms will be conducted Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 11 am in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Kimbrough officiating. Interment will follow in the Knob Creek Baptist Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home will be assisting the family and is in charge of arrangements. A native of Columbia, Tennessee, Mrs. Grooms was the wife of the late Robert Allen Grooms who passed away on August 14, 1975. She was the daughter of the late Joe A. Haywood and the late Ada Bratton. Mrs. Grooms was a loving housewife and grandmother. Among her many interests, Mrs. Grooms enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was an avid doll collector even being featured in the local newspaper, the Columbia Daily Herald, for her collection. She was a faithful member of the Ladies of Bethany Sunday School Class for many years. Mrs. Willie Jo Grooms left behind to cherish her memory three sons: Joe Allen Grooms of Culleoka, TN, Ronnie Eugene (Shirley) Grooms of Louisville, KY, and Philip Ray (Jill) Grooms of Athens, TN; four grandsons: Joe (Debbie) Grooms, Jr. of Columbia, TN, Ronald Eric (Channin) Grooms-Cunningham of Columbia, TN, Ronald E. (Stacey) Grooms II of Louisville, KY, and Joshua P. (Elena) Grooms of Athens, TN, two granddaughters: Amy (Jason) Helton of Louisville, KY, and Kara J. Grooms of Athens, TN; and thirteen great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Grooms was preceded in death by her brother James Haywood. Active Pallbearers will include: Joe Grooms, Jr., Eric Grooms-Cunningham, Joshua Grooms, Jerry Hartsfield, Justin Grooms, David Hartsfield, Jim Walker, Kara Grooms, Ron Grooms II, and Thomas Knowis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Faye Hartsfield, Mozelle Haywood, the Ladies of Bethany Sunday School Class, and the nursing staff of NHC Hillview.
