Fern Hodges Hickman

Mrs. Fern Hodges Hickman, 86, a resident of Alicia Lane in Columbia, died Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral Services for Mrs. Hickman will be conducted on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Reverend Frank Smith and Reverend Melinda Britt officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens, Garden of Prayer. The family will visit with friends Saturday, November 14, 2009 from 3:00 " 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Born in Kodak, Tennessee, Sevier County, Mrs. Hickman was the daughter of the late Walter and Claud Underwood Hodges, and wife of Ray Halmer Hickman. In addition to being a teacher, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbia, and a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women organization at her churches in Kodak, Nashville, Memphis, and Columbia, Tennessee. Mrs. Hickman is survived by her husband of 65 years, and her son, Frick (Pam) Hickman of Columbia; a daughter-in-law, Fran Hickman of Maryville; six grandchildren, Amy (Brian) Pruitt, Whitney Hickman, Sarah Hickman, Zachary Hickman, Andrew Hickman, and Daniel Hickman; three great-grandchildren, Sam, Charlie, and Stella Pruitt; sister-in-law, Jody Hodges; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Blaik Hickman and a brother, Sam Hodges. Pallbearers will be Zachary Hickman, Andrew Hickman, Daniel Hickman, Brian Pruitt, Gary May, Joe Soward, and Doug Huffaker. Honorary pallbearers are Ayers Whitney Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, and the devoted staff at Life Care Center of Columbia.
