Mr. Samuel Charles Sammy Hickman, 66, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010 at his home on Apache Trail, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services for Mr. Hickman will be conducted on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 1:00 p m. in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Roberts officiating and Minister Ramona Warfield assisting. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. " 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. The staff of Heritage Funeral Home will be assisting the family. A native of Giles County, Tennessee, Mr. Hickman was born on July 14, 1943. He was the son of the late Mahlon Hickman and the late Katherine Hickman Thompson. Sammy attended Central High School and Columbia Military Academy. He joined the Navy in August of 1961 and proudly served our Country during the Vietnam War. Mr. Hickman was released from Active Duty being Honorably Discharged and transferred to the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1967. He served aboard the U.S.S. WASP Aircraft Carrier through August 1965. He was aboard the WASP when the first Space Astronauts were picked up after returning from space. Mr. Hickman was employed with Mobile Chemical Company, in Mt. Pleasant for several years. He was Owner/Operator of Hickman Marine and a long-time truck driver. He was a member of American Legion Post 19 and a member of Parkway Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Galbreath Hickman; a daughter, Kimberly (Darell) Wentzel; a sister, Linda Hickman Tomlin; grandson, MacKenzie Wentzel; a grand-daughter, Jenna Beth Wentzel; a step-sisters Dianne (George) Harris of Columbia and Jane (Jim) Floyd of Shady Valley, TN; nieces, Terri (Kevin) Boyd, Beverly Strong, Connie (Jeff) Green, Judy (Charlie) Morton; nephews, Jeff Baker, Jeff Stacey, and Robbie Galbreath; aunts, Jewell Crockett, Jean (Foster) Thurman, and Helen Ledford Reeves of Orange Beach, AL; great nephew, Zachery Baker; and great nieces, Elizabeth (Jerid) Metcalf of Knoxville, TN and Dareain Baker; and beloved pet Lady. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Dawn Missy Hickman. Pallbearers will be Charlie Morton, Jeff Stacey, Guy Odom, Jeff Baker, Homer Ring, Neil Goodman, Paxton Morton, and John Chadwell. Honorary Guests: Larry Logue, Jimmy Gobble, Derrick K. Davis, Glenn (Greasy) Johnson, Ashley Brown, Enoch George, James Bailey, Steve Konz, Jerry Colley, and all Tennessee River Friends. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.heritage-fhcs.com.
