Mrs. Vunnie O. Harris Jones, age 91, and a resident South Main Street passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 3:30 PM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Interment will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 4:00 " 8:00 PM as well as one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements. Born in the Primm Springs community, Vunnie O. Harris Jones was welcomed into this world on June 18, 1921 by her father William Seth Harris and mother Mattie Scott Harris. Educated in Williamson County, she had the opportunity to teach several grades in the same community. For years she became known as Tiny to the customers of Oldhams Restaurant and later as manager at Roses Cafeteria. She retired from Columbia State Community College Cafeteria. She was called Nanny by not just family but many dear friends and loved ones. No one ever left her home empty handed, and her greatest joy was sharing her wonderful home-cooked food. She is survived by her sons: George S. (Mary) Starkey, Douglas C. Starkey; daughter, Dianne (Phil) Harris; grandchildren: Lisa Starkey Stromatt, Tamela Starkey, William Starkey, Teresa Starkey Bales, Christopher (Karita) Harris, Kris Starkey; great-grandchildren: Tessa Stromatt, Corey Stromatt, William B. Starkey, Eric Davis, Daniel Davis, Amber Milby, Brittany Pennington, Eli Harris; seven great-great-grandchildren , and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John C. Harris; sisters: Narvie Lou Harris, Ruby Harris; husband, Dan Jones III. She was blessed by her mother-in-law, Johnnie B. Holt and father-in-law, James R. Holt. Pallbearers will be Billy Starkey, Chris Harris, Daniel Davis, Bobby Benefield, Gerald Harris, and Mike Harris. The family would like to express sincere thanks to Dr. John Maloof and staff for the many years of excellent care and friendship, to Dr. Gibran Naddy and staff for their excellent care, to Maury Regional Medical Centers staff, volunteers, and third floor staff, and especially 5th floor west nurses and techs for their compassion, words of encouragement, and allowing Nanny to exit this life with grace and dignity, to Pastor Rick Points for endless visits, prayers, and always being there, to First Assembly of God Church, your prayers and presence have made a great impact on many lives and will never be forgotten, special thank you to Hospice Compassus, and to dear friends: Denise and Jeff Collins and Nancy and Bobby Benefield, you complete our family, we pray that your life will be touched by someone as special as our Nanny.
