Mr. Carl Eugene Dunkel, 43, formerly of Oil City, Pennsylvania, and a resident of Lyon Street in Columbia, died Monday, December 14, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services for Mr. Dunkel will be conducted Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Clare Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends, Tuesday, December 15, 2009, from 3:00 " 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Born in Oil City, Pennsylvania, Mr. Dunkel is the son of Virginia Susie Hazelton Atnip and the late Raymond Leroy Dunkel. He was a 1984 graduate of Cranberry High School in Seneca, Pennsylvania, and a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard. Mr. Dunkel worked as a millwright for Local #1554, Mid-South Carpenters Regional Council, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He was former employee of Heil-Quaker in Lewisburg. Mr. Dunkel was an avid fisherman, woodworker, enjoyed cooking, motorcycle riding, gardening, and was a NASCAR fan. Mr. Dunkel attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Oil City, Pennsylvania, and St. Catherine Catholic Church in Columbia. Mr. Dunkel is survived by his mother, Susie (Jack) Atnip of Columbia; a son, Jack Allen (fiance, Megan) Dunkel of Dalton, GA; a daughter, Jamie Lee Dunkel of Dalton, GA; a granddaughter, Callie Nicole Dunkel of Dalton, GA; two brothers, Gary (Robin) Dunkel of Lake View, AL and Glen Dunkel of Oil City, PA; a paternal grandfather, Ernest Lloyd (Peggy) Dunkel of Oil City, PA; a special friend, Kathy Hardison of Columbia; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Edgar Paul and Ruth V. Hazelton and his paternal grandmother, Lillian Marie Dunkel. Active pallbearers will be family and friends.
