Mr. George Anderson Holt, Jr., 71, a resident of Brown Hollow Road in Columbia, died Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services for Mr. Holt will be conducted Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. James D. Moore and Mylan Coble officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends, Monday, December 7, 2009, from 3:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A native of Maury County, he was the son of the late George Anderson Holt, Sr. and the late Mary Wise Holt. Mr. Holt was a 1957 graduate of Columbia Central High School. Also, in 1957, he married Dorothy Luttrell, who survives. He has attended police academies and Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy. Mr. Holt retired from the Maury County Sheriffs Department as a Criminal Investigator. He, along with his wife, were former owners and operators of Quality Cleaners and Laundry in the early 70s. Mr. Holt enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all, he loved spending time with the grandchildren. He was a member of Viola Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the deacons. As an active member, he was an exampler of each teaching. In addition to his wife, Dorothy L. Dot Holt, he is survived by his four children; son, Tim (Rhonda) Holt of Columbia; three daughters, Patty (David) Jones of Williamsport; Connie (Joe) Jacob of Columbia; Carol (Don) Thornburg of Williamsport; sixteen grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff) Hardy, Morgan Holt, Jason Allen Jones, Amber (Aaron) Moss, Jeremy (Misty) Jones, Cody (Ashley) Jones, Jordon Jones, Jade (Brandon) Woodard, Joey Jones, Justin Jones, Brian (Kayla) Hickman, Jessica Paige Hickman, Joey Jacob, Haley Beth Thornburg, Allyson Ann Thornburg, and Maddy Carol Thornburg; seven great-grandchildren, Sutherland Grace Hardy, J. Holt Hardy, Skylar Payton Tarpley, Steven Allen Jones, Shelby Dean Jones, Cheyenne Renea Jones, Lindsay Allynn Moss; a special little friend, Huntleigh Faith Mash; a brother, Wayne (Janet) Holt of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Blanch Holt of Franklin; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Holt. Active pallbearers will be Terry Potts, Johnny Luttrell, Dwayne Hicks, Michael Jones, Steven Farrar, Jim Thurman, and Terry Crumley. Honorary guests will be the retirees of the Maury County Sheriffs Department, members of the Columbia Fire Department, men of Viola Baptist Church, staff and patients of Fresenius Center, Ray Woody, Dr. Charles Ball, Dr. Moataz Toban, and Dr. Hany Rezk .
