July 24, 1928 - September 3, 2011

Mr. James Leo VanderHorst age 83, beloved husband of Wilma (Niner) VanderHorst of 56 years, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at NHC Columbia in Columbia, Tennessee. He was a native of Toledo, Ohio. Mr. VanderHorst retired from Blade Printing Company in Toledo, Ohio after a career of 50 years as a printer. Throughout his entire life, Mr. VanderHorst entertained friends and family with his bird whistling, joking and story telling. He loved camping and was an avid card player. Mr. VanderHorst was a long time member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society in Toledo, OH. He will be greatly missed by family and friends in Ohio and Tennessee. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters, Janice (Timothy) Altman of Spring Hill, TN and Sharon (Russell) Yates of Haines City, FL, brother, Charles VanderHorst; sisters, Agnes (Paul) Gross, Marylou (Thomas) Toska, and Geraldine (John) Leganik. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer Altman and Tamara (Jason) Geraci, Christopher Orszak, Sarah Alberts, Nicole (Allan) Morgan, Chad (Kristine Stewart) Yates and God-daughter Elizabeth (Gene) Mefferd. He had six great grandchildren, Lexi Mefferd, Nevaeh Geraci, Enzo Geraci, Celest Guthrie, Raymond Morgan and Gage Morgan and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mr. VanderHorst was the son of the late Earl and Loretta (McEvoy) VanderHorst. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters; Marion Daniels, Helen Werling, Dorothy Hardison and Rosalyn VanderHorst and brothers; Jack VanderHorst, Raymond VanderHorst and Lawrence VanderHorst and his great grandson Caden Faun. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Columbia Tenn., on September 7, 2011 at 11a.m. with Father Davis Chackaleckel officiating. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements. Inurnment and a Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes will also be held in Toledo, Ohio at a later date.
