Mr. Dewey Wilson, age 61, husband of Elizabeth (Edwards) Wilson and a resident of Skelley Road in Santa Fe, TN, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 after a short battle with cancer at NHC Hillview in Columbia, TN. Funeral services for Mr. Wilson will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 21, 2011 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Cave Springs Cemetery in the Bethel community. The family will visit with friends on Friday, May 20th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Wilson is a native of Maury County; more specifically, the Bethel community. He was born to the late, Stanley G. Wilson (Father) and the late, Irene Wakefield Wilson (Mother). He went on to graduate from Santa Fe High School in the class of 1967 after being very active in the 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America. During those exciting high school years; he was known for showing Shorthorn Cattle with his late uncle, Leslie Wakefield. He then followed his dream and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from UT Knoxville where he majored in Agriculture. Among his many varied achievements, he took his first job after college and taught at the Wilson County School System in Lebanon, was a farmer for many years in the Bethel/Santa Fe Community, and was a sign maker with the Maury County Hwy. Department for over 22 years. His faith was Presbyterian; he was a church elder and a member of Franklin Cumberland Presbyterian Church. It is noted that he was kind hearted and liked everyone. He loved sports, especially the Tennessee Volunteers, but his priorities lined up; most of all, he loved his family, (especially his nieces & nephews) and his church. In addition to his wife; Mr. Wilson is survived by his sister, Reba (Freemon) Wilson Harris of Union City, TN; sister-in-law, Judy (Frank) Everett, several nieces; Dana Harris (Eddie) Coffey of Union City, TN; Denise Baxter Rogers and Dalon Baxter (Ronnie) Kephart, both of Santa Fe, TN, and Bethany Wilson (Jeff) Mullins of Smyrna, TN. Nephews; Michael (Missy) Harris of Covington, TN, Todd (Melissa) Baxter of Santa Fe, TN, Chad Edwards Chrisman of Antioch, TN, Julie Chrisman Jones of Bowling Green, KY, Bradley Harper Chrisman of Murfreesboro, TN, and Jason Palmer Chrisman of Franklin, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Wilson, a nephew, James Harris, one sister, Linda Wilson Baxter, along with one niece Rae Ann Wilson Graham. Pallbearers are Mr. Wilsons nephews and Freeman Harris. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ron Bailey, Van Boshers, Jerry Attkisson, Frank Everett, Betty Campbell, members of the Franklin Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Employees of the Maury County Highway Department, along with neighbors and friends of the Bethel Community.
