Mr. Dixie Lee Dick Fisher, age 81, husband of Geraldine (Oliver) Fisher, and a resident of Evergreen Drive in Columbia, passed away in his home and surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 17, 2011. Funeral services for Mr. Fisher will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Vassar officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery in Culleoka. The family will visit with friends at Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 from 3:00 PM " 8:00 PM and again at the church on Wednesday from 11:30 until the service time. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Fisher was born in Robertson County to the late Gertrude (Stringfield) Fisher, (Mother) and the late, Hugh Lee Fisher. (Father) He graduated from Greenbrier High School. He worked at DuPont Chemical plant, and then transferred to Columbia after he joined the management team for Sears in 1962. He founded Fisher Carpet Center in Columbia, TN in 1968. He married his bride in 1972. He attended and was a charter member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday School Leader, and a faithful servant of the Lord. After his faith and family; he loved the outdoors and sports. He was a big UT fan, supported Columbia Central High School, and Columbia State Community College athletics. After retirement he and Geraldine spent 23 years on the Tennessee River loving life and fishing. (He loved to fish and was a great fisherman.) Mr. Fisher was the 1st PTA President of Brown Elementary school, was politically active as a Democrat. Fisher Carpet has been a 40 year sponsor of Columbia National Little League Baseball. The apple of his eye in his later years was his great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife; he is survived by two children; Brad (Wendy) Fisher of Santa Fe and Dr. Karen (Wilbur) Davis of Columbia; one sister, Mariana Poole of Greenbrier, TN; five grandchildren, Tad (Tracy) Hickman, Mark Davis, Daniel (Cindy) Davis, Jessica (Shane) Fisher Oliver, of Columbia, and Riley Fisher of Santa Fe; five great-grandchildren, Chase Hickman, Ashton Hickman, Blane Davis, Journey Davis, and Sophia Oliver; all of Columbia along with several nieces and nephews. Also included were two special sister-in-laws; Corinne Goetz and Janice Johnson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Fisher was preceded in death by his sister that recently passed way from Greenbrier, TN; Barbara Allen; two children, Mark Fisher and Vicki Johns Crumley, and his first wife, Betty Dorris Fisher. Pallbearers will be: Mark Davis, Daniel Davis, Edward Gonzales, Riley Fisher, Tad Hickman, Shane Oliver, Kempf Poole, Robert Belew, Dr. Gaylon Harris, and Jessica Fisher Oliver. Honorary Pallbearers will be Roy Burns, Charles Tisher, Bobby Chance, Horace Terry, Luke Parker, Gary & Denise Kinney, Mac Palmer, Stephen Jones, and Pleasant Heights Mens Sunday School Class. Mr. Fisher wanted to mention a special group of doctors; Amit Choksi, Janice Vinson, Jim Marshall, Tony Khim, Lucy Ledbetter, Andy Sisk, Jon Freels and a special thank you to Dr. Gaylon Harris that coordinated his care. The family wants to express an additional thank you to Caris Hospice.
