Mrs. Maxine Wilkes, age 78, widow of Harold Wilkes and a resident of Louise Street in Columbia, Tennessee, passed away at her residence on Saturday, October 02, 2010 following an extended illness. Funeral Services for Mrs. Wilkes will be conducted at a later date in Hanover, Michigan. The Hampton Krutz Funeral Home will be assisting the family with those arrangements. Interment will follow in the Jerome Cemetery in Jerome, Michigan. A local Celebration and Remembrance Service will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Scribners Mill Church of Christ on Scribners Mill Road in Culleoka, Tennessee. Heritage Funeral Home & Cremation Services, llc is assisting the family with local arrangements. A native of Jackson/Hillsdale, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Perry Leonard and the late Hattie Hayes. Mrs. Wilkes was a hard worker, rising early to work on the farm in her younger days. In addition to caring for her family, for a period of time she worked in a factory in Michigan. There were many things she enjoyed in life. Playing cards, gardening, caring for her pets and cooking were among her favorites. Her grandson stated that since she had been ill he had truly missed her good cooking. He recalled how she cooked on a wood stove and how everything she made was delicious. Mrs. Wilkes left behind to cherish her memory four daughters: Vicki (Estle) Landis of Cold Water, MI, Cindy (Phillip) Putnam of Columbia, TN, Sandy (Geoge) Gritzmaker of Clayton, MI, and Marilyn (Denny) Johnson of Coldwater, MI; two sons: Ronald (Linda) Truitt of Moscow, MI, and Donald Truitt of Roebuck, SC; one daughter-in-law: Charlotte Truitt of Hanover, MI; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, parents, and brothers and sisters, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John F. Truitt, and two sons: Arthur Leonard and Kenny Truitt. Pallbearers will include Derek Reynolds, Justin Truitt, Keith Gritzmaker, Tom Landis, Ronald Truitt, Jr. and Kenny Truitt. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.heritage-fhcs.com.
