Mrs. Shelby Sutherland, age 73, wife of George Stephen Sutherland, and a resident of Columbia, TN passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be Saturday August 11 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday August 10 from 4 - 8 PM in the Hunter Room of Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of arrangements. Shelby was born on December 29, 1938 in Mt. Pleasant to the late John and Ella Edith Davis. She was a member of Williamsport Baptist Church and attended Parkway Baptist Church. She loved sports and coached fast pitch softball, volleyball, and basketball for many years. She and her husband were both members of a CB Club called Monkey Dusters. Her home was open to all the kids in the neighborhood, and she raised many of them, taking in children who needed a family. She was known to many in the community as "Moma Jeannie." In addition to her husband she is survived by her son: Barry Stephen Sutherland of Mt. Pleasant; son-in-law: Paul Vaughn of Columbia; daughter: Debra Jean (David) Stanfill of Columbia; daughter-in-law: Elaine Stubblefield; sister: Sandy Holt; grandchildren: Caryn (Michael) Lyons, Stephen Lunn, Shana Stanfill, Susie Stanfill, Stephen Stanfill; step-grandson: Frank Stubblefield; step-great granddaughter: Samantha Stubblefield; great-grandchildren: Jayda Lyons, Michael Lyons III; and several loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her daughter: Carrie Ann Vaughn; brothers: Paul Howard Davis, Donald Ray Davis; sister-in-law Cookie Sutherland; father-in-law: George Floyd Sutherland and mother-in-law: Anna Ethel Sutherland. Pallbearers will be Jessie Lancaster, Ray Odom, Scott Pundt, Guy Ragsdale, Keith Odom, and Ryan Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Goetz and Jimmy Tennyson.
